Faye Chiao is a composer and performer of musical theater, opera, and concert music. She has been honored with awards from the Presser Foundation, the Puffin Foundation, and Opera America, and has also been an artist in residence at New Victory LabWorks, the John Duffy Institute for New Opera at the Virginia Arts Festival, and Boston Chamber Symphony. Chiao’s work has been commissioned by Kenyon College, Prospect Theater, Single Carrot Theater, Hear Her Song, Houston Grand Opera, and others.

Recent performances include Upstream in concert at Two River Theater, with book and lyrics by Chesney Snow; Katie: The Strongest of the Strong at Houston Grand Opera, with book and lyrics by Anton Dudley; Matter of Moments at Kenyon College, with book and lyrics by Anton Dudley; The Secret Code of Mary Bowser at the Pittsburgh Festival Opera, with book and lyrics by Anton Dudley; and Rhyme & Punishment at Playwrights Realm in New York and American Dream Theater in Virginia, with book and lyrics by Anton Dudley.

Chiao is currently working on two musicals with playwright Tasha Gordon-Solmon, centering the voices of bold and complex women. Their musical, Fountain of You, will premiere at the Z in Virginia Beach, Virginia, in 2022.
