Charlie Harding is a music journalist, educator, and co-creator/co-host of Switched on Pop, a podcast exploring the making and meaning of popular music. Switched on Pop, co-produced by New York Magazine and Vox Media, has earned acclaim from NPR, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, and Entertainment Weekly for its musicological analysis. He co-authored Switched On Pop: How Popular Music Works and Why it Matters (Oxford University Press). The book examines 16 modern classics to reveal the musical concepts behind contemporary hit songs.
He is an adjunct professor at NYU Steinhardt's Music and Performing Arts Professions, where he teaches songwriting, production, and music history. He has guest lectured at NYU's Clive Davis Institute, USC Annenberg, UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, and Eastman School of Music. His writing has appeared in The New York Times, Los Angeles Review of Books, Vulture, Vox, and Billboard, and he regularly contributes to WNYC.
